Instant Pot Spinach Dal

0.25 cupsplit pigeon peas (toor dal)
0.25 cupred lentils (masoor dal)
1 tbspvegetable oil
3 clovesgarlic
1fresh green chili
0.5 tspcumin seed
0.25 tspblack mustard seed
1large tomato, chopped
1.5 cupsfinely chopped spinach
0.25 tspturmeric powder
1.5 cupswater
0.25 tspgaram masala
1.5 tbsplemon juice
to tastesalt


  1. Wash lentils, set aside
  2. Put Instant Pot on saute mode. Add oil; when hot, add cumin and mustard seeds and cook until crackling.
  3. Add garlic, green chili, saute until garlic begins to brown
  4. Add tomato, mix, cook for about a minute
  5. Add spinach, mix
  6. Add salt, turmeric powder, cook for two minutes
  7. Add lentils, stir
  8. Add water
  9. Close Instant Pot lid and steam valve. Press "Manual" and cook on High Pressure for 10 minutes
  10. After cooking completes, wait 6-7, then open steam valve.
  11. Adjust salt. Add garam masala, lemon juice, cilantro, and if desired add extra water to adjust consistency
